LACROSSE, Wis. – A Spring Grove, Minnesota, man was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of a 19-year-old bar bouncer in downtown LaCrosse in March 2020. In addition, Judge Judge Elliott Levine ordered Timothy Young, 32, to pay $490,000 restitution. Young had pleaded guilty to first-degree murder. At the sentencing hearing, his attorney asked for 20 years. Judge Levine said 20 wasn’t enough. “Because the court needs a long enough term for the Department of Corrections to understand that he has full insight into his mental illness, his full insight to his alcohol use and its effect, and frankly, has the mindset that understands the deep evil that he committed.” With good behavior, Young will spend at least 35 years behind bars.
Young. Flanked by attorneys, he held back tears in a brief statement to the court: “I am truly sorry for any and all suffering I have caused. I pray for forgiveness but do not expect to find it.”
