WINONA, Minn. – Walmart shoppers were aghast at what they’d seen in the parking lot and asked a clerk to call police. There had been a man, woman and toddler in a stroller heading to the store. The man, they said, smacked the woman in the face and knocked her glasses off, breaking them. Even so, they continued onto the store, where, the witnesses said, the woman picked the child up from the stroller, at which point the man smashed the stroller and left. A few blocks away, at Lake Boulevard and Homer Road, police caught up with Jermaine Lavelle Ross, 29, of Winona. He said it all was a mere verbal altercation. When police tried to get him into their squad car, they said, he resisted. But they got him in and took him to the station house. He was booked for felony domestic assault. This was all about 1 p.m.
