RUSHFORD, Minn. – David Michael Birchell, of Rushford, whose values he said were shaped growing up in the Athabaskan native culture in Alaska, died at age 78. As a young man he joined the U.S. Army as a radio technician in Korea. Back in Alaska he built a family abode of logs he felled and sawed himself. Later in life was an energy conservation consultant. Rushford became a retirement home in 2014.
