WINONA, Minn.  – Rose Marie Smith, 94, of Winona, who was the first Winona Winter Carnival Snow Queen in 1945, died at Benedictine nursing home. She was a secretary in the Student Union at Winona State University for 25 years.  She graduated as valedictorian from Cathedral Girls Catholic High School in 1945 and went on to the College of St. Teresa. She belonged to Knights of Columbus Columbian Women and volunteered at St. Anne’s nursing home. She was a Girl Scout leader and an inveterate card player. She was proud of her Czech heritage and made numerous pilgrimages to Europe.
