WINONA, Minn. – Robert Walter Raz, 88, of Winona, who taught English more than 20 years at Winona State University, died at Sugar Loaf Senior Living. He grew up in Detroit and earned a doctorate at the University of Michigan. He was in the U.S. military with the Army Security Agency. He preferred informality with students, discouraging the title “doctor” and suggesting instead “professor.” He enjoyed playing the piano and singing. He wrote devotional articles for Power of Today magazine.
