CHATFIELD, Minn. – A rural Chatfield couple has been charged with stealing nearly $100,000 from a woman in their care who was suffering dementia. The felony charge was filed against Bruce Amundson, 68, and Deborah Amundson, 66. The criminal complaint said the money was transferred out of the dementia victim’s bank account from January 2018 to April 2021. This as during a period that the Amundsons had placed the woman in a nursing home because they no longer could take care of her needs. In the meantime, the woman’s nursing home bills, $30,000, went unpaid.  Sheriff’s investigators received a report in April 2021 about dubious bank transfers into an Amundson account. Amundson said he had power of attorney over the woman’s affairs but couldn’t produce a contract, according to the criminal complaint.
