WINONA, Minn. – This is something that only college students would do. At Winona State on Saturday they’re dropping a ripe pumpkin 35 feet from a campus roof to see it splat. Then they’re dropping a pumpkin filled with liquid nitrogen to see what it does. The textbooks say it will shatter into dozens of orange projectiles. No splat. The demonstration, by campus STEM clubs, is to celebrate national Chemistry Week. It’s free Time: 11 a.m. at the Science Building atrium. Two hours of demonstrations include the melting of iron and a vacuum bazooka. There also is a Halloween costume contest. Caution: It will be at your own risk to come dressed as a pumpkin
