CALMAR, Iowa– A truck driver with a trailer of cattle strayed off U.S. Highway 52 near Calmar and overturned.  Twelve head of cattle died. Twenty-one survived. Winneshiek County deputies said the driver, Anton Tomash, 33. of Alta Vista, was stretching for a jug of water in the cab while also chatting on a headset and lost control. He was taken 11 miles to a Decorah hospital. This was about 10 p.m. Estimated damage to the tractor-trailer: $200,000. Value of lost cattle: $31,000.
