The Minnesota Transportation Department’s district headquarters in Rochester has a roster for 208 drivers to keep highways open in southeast Minnesota But 20 roster lines are vacant going into November. The department’s regional spokesperson, Michael Dougherty, has put out the word: “We’re hiring.” Pay averages $23 to $25 an hour for shifts that range as long as 12 hours. A Class B commercial driver’s license is required, Dougherty said. It’s an ideal job for farmers, construction workers. and heavy machine operators who are idle winter, he said.
