ROBBINSDALE, Minn. – Police rushed the emergency room at North Memorial Hospital where dozens of people had converged in response to a report that a friend had attempted suicide. The hospital was already in lock-down before police arrived to disperse the group. A black activist, John Thompson, was arrested and charged tentatively with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. Thompson, a machinist by trade, has been outspoken about police misconduct against blacks, particularly the traffic-stop shooting death of his friend Philandro Castile in 2016.
