WINONA, Minn. – Police believe they’ve linked two cases of stolen automobile license plates overnight. In one case a car owner reported plates missing from two cars in the 450 block of Lafayette Street. This was about 9:45 a.m. Two hours later another car owner, a block away in the 450 block of Center Street, reported his plates stolen. On the ground was one of the plates taken from one of the Lafayette Street cars. There also was a screwdriver on the ground, apparently dropped in the dark. Later in the day, officers found the second license plates from one of the Lafayette Street cars. The final tally: Three sets of plates were solen, and two sets were recovered.
