WAUKESHA, Wis. – The judge for the trial of Darrell Brooks ousted him from her courtroom, whereh is trial was beginning for the 2021 Waukesha Christmas parade massacre. Brooks, who is acting as his own attorney, interrupted jury selection procedures several times as the trial was beginning. The prosecutor asked Judge Jennifer Dorow to gag Brooks. Instead, she instructed a bailiff to escort Brooks out and let him watch from outside on closed-circuit television. The core of Brooks’ objections was that his name should be used in the proceedings. The legal basis for such a demand was not clear. Observers said it was a sign of Brooks’ lack of legal knowledge and of court procedures — and intended as a distraction. Three days have been scheduled for jury selection, four weeks for the trial.
