ST. PAUL, Minn. – State Senator Jeremy Miller, R-Winona, signed on as a co-sponsor of a bill to exempt retirees from state taxes on their Social Security income. Miller said the bill would advance a trend to reduce the tax burden on senior citizens. He noted that Minnesota is one of only a handful of states to tax Social Security income. The current arrangement, Miller said, is a double tax. Income is taxed first when it’s earned and again when it’s returned as Social Security payments.
