CAMBRIA, Wis. – Village President Glen Williams said that a terrorist training facility identified in FBI documents was not in the village proper. Williams wasn’t sure of the location but acknowledged that the camp had a Cambria address. The FBI cited the camp in alleging a kidnap plot against Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. In a criminal against 13 men, the FBI said “attendees” participated in firearms training and combat drills. The plot included bringing Whitmer to a “secure location” in Wisconsin and put her on “trial” for treason, the FBI said. The plotters apparently kept their Cambria activities well under cover. One local, Alama Salgado, told an out-of-town reporter as she ate dinner at The Dump tavern: “I was shocked because it’s a small town and things like that don’t happen in a small town.”

Finding Cambria
Cambria is a six-hour drive from Lansing, the Michigan state capital, and a little less to Grand Rapids, which the FBI identified as the plotters’ hub.
Cambria, 40 minutes from touristy Wisconsin Dells, has many commercial campgrounds, but the “training camp” that the FBI infiltrated was more likely a privately owned remote cabin or lodge with secluded acreage.
