LACROSSE, Wis. – A second person has been charged for a gunfight in which 19 shots were exchanged and two teenagers at a South Side were shot, one of them fatally. Jackson Greengrass, 17, of La Crosse, who was wounded in the May 22 fight, was charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, felony murder by battery as a party to a crime, possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under the age of 18, and intentionally pointing a firearm at a person. Earlier, Sage Hicke, 18, of Ontario, was charged on similar counts. The fight was in the 1900 block of South Seventh Street
What happened
Court documents, based on witness statements, painted a wild picture of a gunfight outside a party near Gundersen Hospital on the south Side. Hicke was at the party when Vondrashek and Greengrass arrived. They confronted Hicke outside. A fight ensued. Vondrashek hit Hicke in the head with a gun. Greengrass pointed a gun at Hicke and fired several shots. Hicke fired several shots back at both Vondrashek and Greengrass. Vondrashek was shot in the neck and perhaps also the face – and died. In all, at least 10 shots were fired.
