STILLWATER, Minn. – Warrants were issued for two men for the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy at a Woodbury graduation party. Charged with aiding and abetting second-degree murder and various assault charges were Enrique Davila, 23, and Jaden Townsend, 19, of St. Paul. Meanwhile, also at large was 17-year-old who was listed in court documents as a “juvenile defendant.” The charging documents did not identify a motive for the slaying or say who fired the fatal shot at the late Saturday yard party. Killed was 14-year-old Demaris Hobbs-Ekdahl. The boy’s stepfather has been charged for firing shots but not the fatal one.
The fatal sequence
Court documents list this chain of events: Hobbs-Ekdahl called his stepfather from a car dealership. He said and two friends were being harassed and wanted help. The stepfather arrived and told the boys to go back to the party and the harassers would back off. Hobbs-Ekdahl and his friends got into their car and followed the stepfather in his vehicle back to the party. At one point stepfather slowly drove by the harassers, who were standing outside a Kia Forte sedan. The stepfather fired shots toward them. The harassers opened fire in response as the stepfather, his stepson and his friends tried in their vehicles to drive away. Hobbs-Ekdahl took a bullet in the back.
