ST. PAUL, Minn. – Two northern Minnesota Chippewa bands have added a new argument in their struggle against Enbridge Energy’s Line 3 pipeline replacement project across northern Minnesota. The Red Lake and White Earth say an influx of construction workers would increase the exposure of tribal people to the coronavirus. The project would take an estimated 4,200 workers. The bands advanced the COVID argument in asking the state Public Utilities Commission to block the project. The Public Utilities Commission has already given preliminary approval several times.
