KASSON, Minn. – A registered life-time sex offender in Utah, who later became a youth leader at the Mormon church in Kasson, was arrested on sex charges. The arrest resulted from a follow up investigation of a February 2019 traffic stop in which Michael Adam Davis, 35, had a 13-year-old boy in his car. The criminal complaint said that Davis served as a youth leader in the Church of the Latter-Day Saints in Kasson where the teenager attended services. The boy initially denied to investigators that anything sexual occurred between himself and Davis but later told his mother that he had been sexually abused. The boy then detailed the relationship.
Sex crime history
> 2003. Davis, then 18, was charged in Utah with assaulting an 11-year-old boy. In a plea bargain, he was sentenced to 30 days home confinement and 18 months probation.
> 2005. Davis was charged in Utah with exposing himself to a 13-year-old girl with cerebral palsy. In another plea bargain, the charges was reduced. Davis received six months home confinement and three years probation.
The Mormon Church does not require criminal background checks for church leaders unless it is required by state law. In Utah and Minnesota it’s not. In Kasson, Davis instructed young men on lessons from the Book of Mormon.
