WINONA, Minn. – Two med-evac helicopters transported three persons to Level One Trauma centers in LaCrosse and Rochester after a head-on collision on the hairpin turn on the Winona side of Highway 14 over Stockton Hill. They were taken first to the Winona hospital, but their conditions were too severe for local treatment. Meanwhile, the Winona-to-Rochester thoroughfare over Stockton Hill was closed more than three hours, until 6 p.m., to clear the wreckage. The crash was at the Seminary Drive entrance. Laura Renee Brown, 55, and passenger Christ George Brown, 58, both of Stockton, were in a 2001 Chevrolet Impala traveling west, uphill, on Highway 14. Eric Arthur Wittlief, 18, of Oronoco, was in a 1994 Ford pickup headed downhill on Highway 14 to Winona. The speed limit is 50 mph on the three-lane curve. Pavement was rain-slickened.
