CORNELL, Wis. – A firefighter operating a hose line at a fire was shot in the stomach when a loaded gun inside the structure discharged from the heat. Justin Fredrickson, 35, a 16-year veteran of the Cornell Fire Department, was rushed 20 miles to the Ladysmith hospital and then airlifted in critical condition to the Mayo hospital in Eau Claire. He underwent two surgeries. The structure, in the Township of Willard, was destroyed.
