MADISON, Wis. – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources policy board voted 4-3 to put off a wolf hunt season for the time being. The board accepted its staff report that the agency wasn’t prepared on short notice to organize hunt details. Also, the board noted that Native American tribes haven’t been consulted as required by treaty. The decision was a setback for farmers who say they’ve been struggling with wolves preying on their livestock for years. Among witnesses at a board hearing was a Medford dairy farmer, Ryan Klussendorf, who said that wolves have been preying on his livestock for a decade, and even started stalking children at bus stops. “The natural world is brutal and less than picturesque,” he said. “It’s time to set this hunt now.”
