WINONA, Minn. –A Winona man was charged with homicide in a collision that killed a Winona State University student and injured two of her friends. Bond for Adam Anderson, 35, was set at $200,000 by Judge Nancy Buytendorp. Anderson was driving a pickup in the wrong lane of Highway 61 when he plowed into a car with the college students. This was about 12:45 a.m. near the Highway 43 junction in the East End hotel district.

The arrest

Police at the accident reported smelling strong alcohol on Anderson. He refused a field sobriety test. “Probably shouldn’t,” he said. At the jailhouse, where police had a warrant to sample his blood for alcohol, Anderson still refused. He told police he was Christian and having blood drawn violated his beliefs. Six officers held him down. They got the sample.
