WINONA, Minn. – The chief executive of Winona Health, Rachelle Schultz, favors an interstate hiring standard for nursing rather than the current state-by-state hodge-podge. Schultz said the current process delayed hiring  nurses who were needed during the CoVid pandemic. Legislation moving through the Minnesota Legislature would add Minnesota to an interstate compact to facilitate the hiring of nurses from other states. Schultz said in a KWNO interview that the nurse shortage has eased locally. There remains, however, a need to standardize hiring for physicians nationally, she said. Physicians remain short supply in Minnesota, she said.
