MADISON, Wis. – Two challengers to U.S. Senator Ron Johnson’s re-election updated their campaign advertising to focus on the senator’s anti-abortion statements.  Sarah Gadlewski recorded her ad outside of the U.S. Supreme Court after a leak of the Court’s draft opinion to overturn the landmark 1973 Roe v. Wade opinion that legalized abortion nationwide. Said Gadlewiski, herself a mother: “I never thought that this would happen in my lifetime. We’re moving backwards.” She is sending $100,000-plus for airtime with the new ad. In Alex Lasry’s new ad, sitting with his wife Lauren and infant daughter, he vows to to protect women’s rights. The script:

Alex Lasry: And I’ll always be a relentless supporter of a woman’s right to choose.

Lauren Lasry: Especially now. Alex is exactly the kind of ally Tammy Baldwin needs in the Senate.”

Baldwin, in her second term as Wisconsin’s second  incumbent senator, has been fully in favor of abortion s a woman’s option.

“Not my kids”

In the past Johnson has waffled on abortion at least regarding his own two daughters and son. While publicly opposed to abortion as a woman’s option, Johnson’s 1997 will disinherits his children in the event of  out of wedlock children. That would seem to encourage the children to an abortion to remain as beneficiaries. Or perhaps it was merely an incentive for abstinence. Either way, Johnson’s wealth at the time was estimated at $17 million. In 1997 he was 54 and not yet in the U.S. Senate.
