MADISON, Wis.- A conservative law group sued the city of La Crosse in federal court for banning conversion therapy on LGBTQ+ minors. The Wisconsin Institute for Law & Liberty claimed the ban infringes on freedom of speech and religion. The suit was on behalf of Joy Buchman, who owns Kinsman Redeemer Christian Counseling Center in LaCrosse. At issue is whether it’s proper or even possible to counsel gay minors out of their sexual preferences against their will.

Buchman: “My mission as a counselor is to provide healing and guidance to anyone who comes to me for help. Government officials should not be allowed to police the private conversations I have with clients in need and then punish me for saying something they don’t like.”
LaCrosse not alone
Other Wisconsin cities that gave banned conversion therapy: Appleton, Cudahy, Eau Claire, Glendale, Madison, West Allis, Milwaukee, Racine, Sheboygan, Shorewood, Superior, Kenosha and Sun Prairie. Only La Crosse has been sued.
