LACROSSE, Wis. – Mayor Mitch Reynolds said he has put a new ordinance into effect that forbids parents from putting their children into conversion therapy to change their gender preferences. Reynolds said he signed the new ordinance Monday. Meanwhile, protesters proceeded anyway with a rally at City Hall. Their point: Patents, not government, should be free to choose the therapy for their children even if mental health professionals say the therapy not only distressing but ineffective and pointless. About 20 protesters invoked their god and the American flag to underscore their objections. Among their their signs, all addressed to the mayor:

> “Stay out of our church.”

> “Let pastors counsel on Biblical beliefs.”

> “Beliefs are private. Stay out of counseling.”
