FORT MCCOY, Wis. – A six-day project to inoculate Afghan refugee at Fort McCoy against measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox has been completed, the McCoy refugee task force announced. Major General Darrell Guthrie said 97% are vaccinated. The others, Guthrie said, have been granted medical exemptions or have been placed on, as he put it, “humanitarian parole.” The project was designed to protect both Afghan refugees and the public at large, he said. The post has about 122,000 refugees who were evacuated in the Kabul airlift to save them from Taliban retribution for assisting U.S. forces during the 20-year Afghan war.
