ST. PAUL, Minn. – After eight months of contract talks, the Minnesota Nurses Association is preparing to strike. Union leaders scheduled a strike authorization vote for November 30. If approved by a two-thirds majority, a strike could begin on 10 days notices. A three-day stoppage in September severely inconvenienced hospitals but failed to move contract negotiations as far nurses wanted. Targeted again, as in September, are 10 hospitals in the Twin Cities and Duluth areas. The union also has contracts at other hospitals. ,any of whuch are outstate, as in Winona, and have separate contracts that aren’t up for renewal. Contracts at major Cities and Duluth hospitals typically are a model statewide.
