She fell in the line of duty
DULUTH, Minn. – Duluthians were moved by the hundreds by the death of police K-9 Luna, who was shot and killed by a barricaded fugitive Friday. Four police cars led a hearse from the BluePearl Emergency Pet Hospital, where Luna died of her wounds, to Fur-Ever Loved Pet Cremation Services in Scanlon 23 miles away. Almost 200 cars followed. The procession was a tribute to Luna, and also a police dog killed in the line of duty Thursday night, and intended to show support for her partner, Officer Aaron Haller. Hundreds of people lined the streets for the procession, many saluting, many with a right hand over the heart. Nearly 500 comments were left on the Duluth police department Facebook page, mourning the loss of Luna and thanking officers for their service.

Haller’s second K-9 loss
Luna was the second K-9 partner that Duluth police officer Aaron Haller has lost. His former partner, K-9 Haas, was killed, also in the line of duty two years ago. Haller himself was wounded during the same call, which also was a domestic disturbance.

K-9 Officer Haas remembered. Shot also by a barricaded man in a stand-off with police. He was a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois.
