MILWAUKEE, Wis. – In his election to a county judgeship last April, Brett Blomme had support from significant political movers-and-shakers. In campaigning for a judgeship. Blomme called himself aa “progressive alternative” His supporters jncluded elected officials, attorneys and community leaders.
> Tom Barret. The mayor of Milwaukee urged fellow Democrat and Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers to put Blomme’s name forward for an opening on the Milwaukee courts in 2019. Barret cited his 20-year close relationship with Blomme. Governor Evers, however, did not appoint Bloome.
>Tim Carpenter. An influential Democrcat who was elected to the State Assemby in 2003 and served 18 years, and then was elected to the State Senate. He was a strong Blomme supporter.
> Gwen Moore. Moore, a member of Congress from Milwaukee since 2005, was enthusiastic for Blomme to be elected. “He is a former public defender who has dedicated his career to fighting for justice and equity. Brett is the change we need to help fix our broken criminal justice system.”
> Shephard Express. The editorial board of Shephard Express, an alternative weekly, endorsed Blomme for “strong history of serving our community, including his work with nonprofits.”
> LGBTQ Victory Fund. The Fund, a national organization dedicated to putting gay people in public office, expressed confidence in Blomme as a champion of gay people.
Since his arrest, various online web pages have been scrubbed of mentions of Blomme. His LinkedIn profile has been purged of everything except a screenshot citing his Cream City Foundation leadership.
Bromme. A former chief executive of Cream City Foundation in Milwaukee. Earlier he was director of major gifts for the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin. He also served in the state Public Defender’s Office. In winning the 2020 judicial election, Blomme the first openly gay man on Milwaukee Count bench.
