WINONA, Minn. – An electrical transformer exploded downtown near Second and Johnson streets and cut power to 300 Xcel customers. The explosion was about 5: 30 p.m. Service was out two hours. Matt Lindstrom, an Xcel spokesperson, said a faulty cable caused transformer to blow.
