REDWOOD CITY, Calif. —A controversial LaCrosse, Wisconsin, priest who’s resisting an order from his bishop to step down, has raised $300,000 for a legal defense fund. Father James Altman had an original goal of $20,000 at the Christian online fund-raising site Give Send Go. Altman said he needs money for a canon-law challenge to the bishop. He has promised to forward excess funds to LifeSiteNews and Church Militant websites. Both sites have championed his public anti-vaccination rhetoric and other dubious conspiracy notions
