WINONA, Minn. – David John Holien, 28, of Winona, died after a battle with schizophrenia. He graduated from Cotter High School in 2012 where he was a scholar-athlete. He attended Carroll University in Wisconsin on an academic scholarship and played football. Hw also attended Hawaii Pacific University for marine biology and Winona State University for chemistry. He held internships with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the state Natural Resources Department , the Oceans of Fun sea lion program, and Federal Ammunition. He worked at Cedar Valley Golf Course, Kwik Trip, RTP and Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville in Hawaii.
