GIBBON, Neb. – Donna J. Fritz, 84, who fondly remembered being first runner-up in the Winona Steamboat Days pageant, died at her home in Gibbon. She grew up in the Pickwick Valley and graduated from Winona High School in 1956. Her early career was reporting news for the Dubuque Telegraph Herald in Iowa. She also held jobs in classified sales and banking. Her kitchen skills were legendary. She once took a Greyhound bus to Jackson Mississippi, where she won first place in a cook-off for her Cajun catfish.
