DRESBACH, Minn. — Ernest S (Ernie) Micek, 84, of Dresbach, who was chief executive of the Minneapolis-based Cargill agricultural conglomerate, died peacefully following a long illness. He grew up on a small, rocky and hilly farm in Trempealeau County and graduated in 1959 from Arcadia High School. At the University of Wisconsin he studied chemical engineering. His whole career was at Cargill. He retired in August 2000 to a home on the Mississippi River with a nearby hobby farm in the bluffs. He held several posts in President George W. Bush’s administration. He served on boards for the Carlson School of Management, University of St. Thomas, Viterbo University, and UW-La Crosse.
