WINONA, Minn. – Jeanette Theresa (Perkowski) Steiner. 86, of Winona, who was a substitute teacher at Cotter High School many years, died heart failure. She was a Northwestern University alum and did graduate work at the University of Illinois. She was proud of their Polish heritage. As World War II broke out across Europe, her family was evicted from their estate in eastern Poland by Russian troops. They fled to Warsaw. In the 1944 uprising they moved again, coming to the United States in 1947. In Winona she was active in Catholic Daughters of America, the American Association of University Women, the League of Women Voters, the Hiawatha Valley Civil War Round Table, and the Minnesota Marine Art Museum.
