MINNESOTA CITY, Minn. – Michael J. Maher, 79, of Minnesota City, a retired health-care executive and prolific volunteer, died at the Gundersen hospital in La Crosse of injuries from a car-pedestrian accident. He held a doctorate from Duquesne University and taught Philosophy at Saint Mary’s University 1979 to 1983. Later he worked for the Semcac community service organization. He was at nursing home executive at St. Charles, Rochester, Spring Grove and Harmony. He enjoyed reading and outdoor activities. He completed Grandma’s Marathon in Duluth in 1985. He volunteered at the Winona Friendship Center, Minnesota Marine Art Museum, Winona Warming Center for the homeless, and Winona Volunteer Services. He was an adviser for the Winona Archers Youth archery league.
