LACROSSE, Wis. – An estimated 42,000 gallons of sewage spilled into the LaCrosse River after a main broke in city’s sewer system. The break was the river’s north bank. Under pressure, the sewage gushed down the bank and into the river. The sewage rose to the surface and floated into to the Mississippi River just downstream. The break was about 12:25 p.m. A city crew stemmed the break. People were advised to avoid the area.
