WINONA, Minn. – Saint Mary’s University quietly has created a new executive position – vice president for inclusion. Leon Dixon began in June. He has U.S. Army career experience in diversity and inclusion for 30 years. The position was created after escalating student concerns. In 2019, students rallied for a more welcoming campus environment for gays. In 2020 students gigged the university for a weak response when an alum, Brooklyn Center police officer Kimberly Potter, shot and killed a black man in a traffic stop. Potter is white. In his new job Dixon said he will be a listener committed to affirming human dignity.
