WINONA, Minn. – The bright blue steel roof on the new Habitat for Humanity ReStore building at 900 West Third Street has a new hat. TruNorth Solar, a solar installation company, has added 108 solar panels. “When we saw the south-facing roof on our new store, we knew it would be a perfect spot for solar panels,” said John Corcoran, Habitat’s operations director.

The right fit. Solar energy aligns with ReStore’s values of reusing goods and reducing waste, said Amanda Hedlund. The ReStore sells used goods with the goal of reducing waste. Since open in 2003, she said,  ReStore has diverted 4 million pounds of reusable goods from the landfill.
