WINONA, Minn. – The new Cotter grade school to be located near other Cotter schools on the West End will open in August 2023 if everything goes according to plan. Mary Eileen Fitch, Cotter president, said a design committee comprised mostly of teachers has begun meeting with the architectural firm CRW of Rochester to discuss design ideas. The parameters that CRW has to work with are the skeleton of the former Loretto dorm on the old St. Teresa college campus. After the basic design and footprint of the building are determined, the architects will meet with other personnel in focus groups to work through specific details, Fitch said.  While the design work is occurring, the Winona construction firm Schwab will begin asbestos abatement and deconstruction of interior elements. Fitch did not announce a budget for the project.
