RED WING, Minn. – Music promoter Sam Brown, a Red Wing native, announced plans for a mid-winter music event, Big Turn Music Fest, the weekend of Valentine’s. Brown said his inspiration in part was the Loud and Local showcase that he helped create at River City Days when he was in high school. Later he created Mid West Music Fest in Winona 60 miles downriver. Why mid-winter for Big Turn in Red Wing? Partly to attract tourists in an otherwise down season. Nearly 100 bands have been booked at 17 venues, Brown said. Acts include Caroline Smith, Porcupine, and Jeremy Messersmith. The same weekend the New Standards are playing at the Sheldon Theatre.
