WHITEHALL, Wis. – A variant CoVid strain commonly called the U.K. mutation has shown up in Trempealeau County. The strain was found through genome sequencing, the county health department reported. Where and how the victim contracted the virus could not be determined, the department said. The strain was found two weeks ago in neighboring LaCrosse County – although not yet across the Mississippi River in Winona County. The U.K. strain, technically B.1.1.7 of SARS-CoV-2, is worrisome because of its enhanced transmission capabilities.
