WINONA, Minn. – It seemed legit, at least at first, according to a Winona woman who told police afterward of being scammed out of $700. She reported receiving a call from someone claiming to be an Amazon representative. It was about a$1,300 a steel rack stand. The caller had the Winona person’s date of birth, Social Security number and full name. To make things right, the caller suggested a trip to Target for $700 in gift cards. Back home, the victim read off the numbers on the backs of the gift cards to the caller. When the caller then asked for more money, the victim sensed a scam and called police. To police they’ve heard this all before.  Their advice: Never, ever fall for the gift-card scam. Recovery is virtually impossible
