EAU CLAIRE, Wis., — Mayo Clinic reported its three northwest Wisconsin hospitals are at capacity. Fifty percent of the patients are in intensive care with COVID-19. In addition, Mayo said, 40% of its medical or surgical beds are filled with coronavirus patients. The situation is especially dire, Mayo said, because 300 hospital workers are quarantined or isolation because of COVID-19 exposure. The Mayo hospitals, in Eau Claire, Menomonie and Osseo, draw patients from outlying clinics in the region. For a month, with the pandemic worsening, Mayo has postponed elective procedures in the region.
