CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – A Harvard sophomore who became a leading gun control advocate after the mass shooting at his Parkland, Florida, high school, David Hogg, said he’s heard enough loose talk from the Trump wing of American politics. Hogg is toying with wunderkid software engineer William LeGate about manufacture pillows. The venture, Hogg said, would aim at putting Minnesota-based right-wing pillow manufacturer Mike Lindell’s MyPillow out of business. Although Lindell has amassed a $300 million personal fortune]ne with MyPillow, his product was dropped by major retailers as his pro-Trump rhetoric became unhinged after he 2020 election. Hogg said the proposd competing company, OurPillow, will have a website soon. Hogg and LeGate are looking for a consultant with experience in U.S. manufacturing to create high-volume, union-made, environmentally friendly sustainable pillows, Hogg said. The company would support progressive causes, he said. In a barb at Trump and Lindell, Hogg said that OurPillow will “not attempt a white supremacist overthrow of the United States government.”

David Hogg became the face of the American gun-control movement at age 18 after surviving a high school massacre that claimed 17 lives. He founded the Never Again movement and organized protests, marches and boycotts. With his sister he wrote “Never Again: A New Generation Draws the Line.” The book made the New York Times bestseller list. Time magazine included Hogg as one of 2018’s 100 Most Influential People. When he graduated high school, William LeGate won a Thiel fellowship not to go college. The fellowship is $100,000 a year to drop out of school and pursue an entrepreneurial path. LeGate, now 26, used the fellowship to created software. His apps have been downloaded seven million times. LeGate’s products include the Mindswap automated market maker using liquidity pools. His income me has been estimated at $1 million to $5 million a year. Thiel fellowships were created by PayPal co-founder Peter Thiel to encourage under-20 people to exercise their genius right away.
