ST. PAUL, Minn. – An Indian activist, Mike Forcia, 56, of suburban New Brighton, was charged with tearing down a bronze of 1400s explorer Christopher Columbus outside the Capitol in St. Paul in June. Forcia is a member of the Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa. The charge: A felony count of criminal property damage. Forcia had organized the protest at which the statue was toppled to make a statement against European subjugation of indigenous people. Others may also be charged.
