WABASHA, Minn. – A Wabasha man was charged with vehicular homicide in the hit-and-run death of a teen-age skate-border Tuesday after dark. Bernard Quist, 84, was drunk, court documents said. Killed was 16-year-old Adriana Simon. At an arraignment Quist’s bond was set at $5,000. A new hearing was scheduled for October 19. In court documents witnesses were quoted as hearing a loud bang, then finding Simon in the street. The witnesses told police that a tall elderly man and a woman had gotten out of their vehicle. One witness quoted the man: “She is gone.” And the woman: “She just darted out.” They drove off. Quist and the woman later contacted police and drove to the scene. A field sobriety test placed Quist’s blood-alcohol concentration at .09%, slightly above the state threshold for drunken driving.
