WINONA, Minn. – A once prominent Winona pastor, Rick Diego Iglesias, 66, was arrested after he turned himself in for an initial appearance on charges of sex with a high-school boy nine years ago. Iglesias was booked at the county jail on $75,000 bond. He posted the bond and was released on condition that he not make contact with anyone under age 18. A further hearing was scheduled for Feb. 12.
The charges:
> First-degree criminal sexual conduct with a juvenile between the ages of 13 and 15.
> First-degree criminal sexual conduct with a juvenile younger than 16 resulting in injury.
> First-degree criminal sexual conduct with someone younger than 16 reoccurring.
Police say the encounters took place between September 2010 and May 2012. At the time Iglesias was senior pastor at Pleasant Valley Church. Why three counts? The prosecution decided on elevating charges because Iglesias held a position of authority over the victim. The crimes are felonies punishable by 30 years in prison for each count. There also can be a $40,000 fine. Where has Iglesias been since the charges were filed and his resignation in July from a church near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The criminal complaint listed addresses for him in Arizona and Pennsylvania.
