WINONA, Minn. – As a newly named White House Fellow at the U.S. Export-Import Bank, Winona native Travis Thul, sees learning opportunities and personal growth ahead for him as a civic leader. “It is hard to emphasize how grateful I am to work alongside the other selectees who’ve had such varied careers and bring so many differing perspectives to the table,” Thul said in an interview with Josh DeLaRose at the Winona Daily News. Thul has a wide range of experience, including a deanship at Southeast Tech. As a Coast Guard Reserve lieutenant commander, he worked on rebuilding infrastructure in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria and on triage operations after Hurricane Florence. He was deputy maritime deputy incident commander in planning the 2020 Democratic National Convention. “Given the uniqueness of this fellowship, combined with serving during a pandemic and an election year, the lessons are sure to be innumerable,” Thul said. Through the Export-Import Bank, Thul sees opportunity to execute policy that will directly impact manufacturers across the country, including in Winona.
